This week was wake up call to all those that live in the south and in areas where natural disasters occur to re-examine their insurance coverage. The magnitude of the damage is still hard to grasp as you watch the news and see the houses, cars, and businesses that have been destroyed. The bigger loss comes from the loss of life which is the most in recent history due to a natural disaster. Many people that are affected by natural disasters do not have coverage that would cover any losses. So any property loss that occurs will not be recovered and it would be as if these people are starting all over. The areas shown on the news did not seem to be affluent area, but rather apartment housing, and middle income to low income housing. Hurricane Katrina showed us how vulnerable we are to natural disasters and what we as a nation can do to recover from such a weather disaster. Insurance companies took a major hit with Katrina and many adjusters were out in the field making judgments as to what would be covered based on the loss.

Many people are unaware that you can have public insurance claim adjusters come in and provide an assessment to give you a second opinion based on your insurance claims. Public Adjusters can help you reclaim more of your losses since they are an independent company of certified adjusters. They help to provide several options to help you settle your claims with your insurance company and provide someone in your corner. While your insurance company is there to help protect you, they are also not trying to loose money and their claims could be lower in order keep their costs and exposure low.
